DIY Oats Mask

As someone who cares deeply about the environment and animal welfare, I was shocked to realise the products I was using contained sulphates and parabens and were tested on animals. I started looking for a new brand but became increasingly frustrated with the number of skincare products on the market that contained these harmful toxins and were tested on animals. This led me to experiment with making my own products, and one of the first successful recipes I developed was an oat-based face mask. Oats are a great ingredient for skincare as they help to soothe and hydrate the skin, while also providing gentle exfoliation. This easy-to-make face mask is perfect for all skin types and can be customised to suit your individual needs.

Oat-Based Face Mask Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons of oats (rolled or quick-cooking)
  • Water
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon plain yogurt (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Grind the oats in a blender or food processor until they form a fine powder (tip: I used to ground a few cups of oats at a time and stored it in a container for when I wanted to make a mask).
  2. In a small bowl, mix the oat powder with water until it forms a thick paste.
  3. Add the honey and yogurt (if using) to the mixture and stir until well combined.
  4. Apply the mask to your face, gently exfoliating your skin, avoiding the eye area, and leave it on for 10-15 minutes.
  5. Gently rinse off the mask with warm water and pat your face dry with a towel.

Optional: You can also add other ingredients to customise the mask for your skin type. For example, if you have oily skin, you can add a few drops of lemon juice or tea tree oil. For dry skin, you can add a teaspoon of coconut oil or avocado. Just be sure to patch test any new ingredients before using them on your face.

This oat-based face mask is a great option for anyone looking for a gentle and effective way to nourish and hydrate their skin. It’s easy to make, customisable, and uses natural ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry. Give it a try and see the difference it can make in your skincare routine x
